A1G 2410 Series: Stock Cars, 40 Foot

Stock cars don't get no respect. And, well, most of them aren't exactly the most eye catching... although on the prototype, they were certainly "nose" catching! Three of the eight cars in the A1G stock car series were a bit more colorful than the usual box car red or black, including the two tone 2418 Canadian National. Prototypically, the group is probably somehwhat suspect; but then again, in the late 1960's we N Scalers were more focused on getting stuff to run, not on how faithful they were to the real thing.

Since these still don't get no respect, they're among the easiest to come by in the second hand market, and shouldn't be terribly tough on the accumulator's wallet. They were initially made by Rivarossi for Atlas, and Rivarossi did continue to issue some of these cars as part of multipack sets as late as the late 1990's. These reissues won't have the "Atlas" name stamped on the underside, of course. Similar versions of this car were issued by Bachmann (especially early on), Life-Like, Industrial Rail and others, with perhaps a fair amount of "borrowing" of tooling.

Key spotting features for this car are:
- Underframe stamped "Atlas Austria"
- Three Z-braced panels on each side of the door
- Eight "slat" boards running along the side of the car, counting the one that is attached to the roofline
- Cross braces on the door
- Round "dimples" at the left and right bottom corners of each end of the car
- Original trucks with wheels pressed on seperate axles and Rapido couplers, attached with "foldover" metal strips

See the 2250 series description for information on conditions and caveats.

There are no approximate values for "runner" 2410 A1G series cars.
